Sharks smash Munster thanks to Springboks
The Sharks clinched a resounding 41-24 victory over former champions Munster at Kings Park on Saturday.
Jordan Hendrikse top-scored with 16 points off the kicking tee, while his fellow Springboks Aphelele Fassi, Makazole Mapimpi, Grant Williams and Andre Esterhuizen crossed for four of the Sharks’ five tries. The last touchdown was scored by Vincent Tshituka.
Of those mentioned above, Williams was the most influential and he was justly rewarded with the official Man of the Match award.
MATCH RECAP: SHARKS 41-24 MUNSTER
The Sharks made a dream start when Fassi opened the scoring a mere 45 seconds into the game, quickly followed by a second converted try by Makazole Mapimpi.
Despite their disastrous start, Munster did well to stay in the contest with two first-half tries of their, but further scores by Williams and Esterhuizen pushed the hosts out to a 31-14 advantage at the midway mark.
Munster outscored the Sharks 14 points to 10 in the second half, thanks to wing Calvin Nash and captain Tadgh Beirne crashing over the whitewash, but by then the game was already over as a contest.
