Truter faces mounting pressure as Chiefs triumph over Bay with 10 players

Kaizer Chiefs battled their way to a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the Betway Premiership against Richards Bay at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, moving up to sixth place in the league standings.

The Chiefs welcomed Bay at one of their alternate home grounds in Limpopo, marking their return to club action following a three-week international hiatus. Both teams took advantage of this break to refine their performances, as neither had achieved a win in their previous two league outings.

The match commenced with lively energy as both squads engaged in a spirited contest, although the initial ten minutes were somewhat lacking in intensity. The Chiefs introduced a new yet relatively consistent midfield pairing, featuring Sibongiseni Mthethwa making his season debut alongside Yusuf Maart.

After 20 minutes of searching, the Amakhosi finally found the breakthrough, thanks to 20-year-old Wandile Duba. A stroke of brilliance from a well-executed short corner allowed the Chiefs to take the lead, with Yusuf Maart delivering a perfect ball into the box that found an unmarked Duba, who skillfully evaded the Bay defense to score his first goal of the season.

This opening goal made the contest more balanced, as both teams shared possession as the first half continued. Despite the early advantage, the game seemed somewhat chaotic, with neither side effectively controlling the ball or dictating the pace.

By the 40-minute mark, with the score still at 1-0, the ball oscillated frequently between both ends, as neither team showed fluidity in their attacking efforts.

The Chiefs headed into halftime with a narrow lead to maintain, while the Natal Rich Boys retreated to the locker room to consider tactical adjustments.

Just four minutes into the second half, Chiefs right-back Reeve Frosler was issued a second yellow card and sent off, leaving the team a man down early in the half.

In light of the numerical disadvantage, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi aimed to bolster the defense by substituting Pule Moodi for right-back Dillan Solomons.

A midfield alteration occurred in the 55th minute, as Thulani Gumede and Siyethemba Sithebe made way for Langelihle Mhlongo and Nkosikhona Ndaba, intended to invigorate a struggling Chiefs defense.

Meanwhile, forward Justice Figuareido was replaced by Simphiwe Mcineka, completing a notable triple substitution.

Surprisingly, Chiefs found a second goal in the 68th minute when Maart provided yet another assist, this time for Ashley Du Preez. A precise through ball allowed Du Preez to execute a brilliant turn before sliding it past goalkeeper Ina Otieno, giving the 10-man Chiefs some much-needed breathing space.

Nevertheless, Yanela Mbuthuma managed to rise above the Chiefs’ defense and scored, beating Brandon Petersen, who was making his first start in goal for the club, during the additional time allocated by the referee.

Despite this setback, the Glamour Boys managed to cling to their slim lead, securing three points against a Bay side that struggled to capitalize on their numerical advantage throughout much of the second half.

The pressure is now mounting on Bay coach Truter, whose squad has only mustered one victory in the league this season.
