Delft Shooting Claims Life of 13-Year-Old Boy

Delft residents in shock following the horrific murder of a 13-year-old boy.

His lifeless body was found near Blikkiesdorp yesterday morning around 6 AM.

The boy’s face was covered with stab wounds, and he also sustained injuries to his stomach.

According to Jacky Ockhuizen, spokesperson for the Delft Community Policing Forum (CPF), the boy seemed to have been restrained.

Ockhuizen stated: “In the early hours of yesterday morning at around 5:55 AM, we received a report from a passenger en route to work in a taxi in Delft South, opposite the Tsunami corners of Sandelhout Street and Cocktree Road, who noticed what appeared to be a child lying in an open field.”

“We immediately contacted the police to initiate an investigation.

“We can confirm that Delft SAPS discovered the body of a 13-year-old boy discarded in the open field just opposite Tsunami in Delft South.

“It is likely that the boy was beaten elsewhere, as he had visible marks and wounds on his face and stomach. It is evident that he was restrained around his arms.”

Ockhuizen mentioned that the motive for this heinous murder is still uncertain.

He added: “Investigating officers are diligently pursuing leads regarding this incident, even while the body remained at the scene. The boy has yet to be identified.

“As CPF Delft leaders, we strongly condemn any form of gender-based violence (GBV), child trafficking, child rape, and murders occurring in and around the Delft area.”

“We, as CPF, will hold an urgent meeting with the Delft station commander to request increased police and law enforcement support, including more visible police patrols in and around the Delft area this festive season to ensure the safety of residents.”

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that Delft detectives are investigating a murder case following the discovery of the 13-year-old boy’s body on Tuesday.

He stated: “According to reports, SAPS members on duty received a complaint about a person lying in the field.

“Upon arrival, they found the teenager’s body lying on his back, with multiple injuries to his body and face.

“He was dressed in blue jeans, a maroon t-shirt, and red All Star sneakers.

“The circumstances surrounding this fatal incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made as of yet. The motive is part of the police investigation.”
