Amnesty Report Alleges Israel is Committing Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza
Johannesburg – The latest report by Amnesty reveals that Israel is committing acts of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
Amnesty International has reported that its fieldworkers are actively engaged in Gaza, conducting interviews with survivors, witnesses, local organizations, and journalists.
“We are one of only two international human rights organizations present in Gaza, documenting the ongoing crisis,” Amnesty stated on Thursday, (5 December 2024).
“Our research has established that Israel has breached the Genocide Convention, engaging in both genocidal actions and showing an intent to annihilate Palestinians through its policies, actions, and omissions, treating them as subhuman.”
“This report builds upon decades of research in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and follows our 2022 conclusion that Israel is enforcing a system of oppression and domination amounting to the crime against humanity of apartheid.”
Amnesty reported that its research indicates Israel has intentionally caused death, physical and mental harm, and has created living conditions aimed at annihilating Palestinians.
“This includes war crimes such as annihilation, displacement, and forced starvation,” the human rights organization stated.
“Our team conducted interviews with 212 witnesses, local officials, and healthcare workers, and our Crisis Evidence Lab verified visual and digital evidence, including satellite images.”
“We reviewed statements made by Israeli leaders and military officials.”
“Genocidal intent and remarks from political leaders and military officials have been echoed by Israeli Forces Soldiers on the ground, as reflected in social media videos.”

South Africa Welcomes Amnesty Report
South Africa has expressed its support for Amnesty International’s report, which highlights the genocide faced by the Palestinian people in occupied Gaza.
The findings substantiate South Africa’s position before the International Court of Justice and align with various United Nations reports:
Dr. Tlaleng Mofokeng, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, noted that the Israeli leadership’s promise last year to decimate Gaza has been realized.
“The Strip is now a desolate area of rubble and human remains,” where survivors are fighting to survive, and bodies are decomposing in the remnants of clinics and hospitals.
Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territory Occupied, stressed the necessity for the international community to acknowledge the situation in Gaza as genocide.
She emphasized the need to comprehend the wider implications behind the current circumstances in Palestine, pointing out that while Palestinians have long endured war crimes and crimes against humanity, the present situation is unprecedented.
The initiatives of Amnesty International should be viewed through the lens of human rights advocacy.
“We urge the international community to endorse the right to defend human rights and to enhance protections for human rights defenders against any repercussions stemming from their efforts,” stated the SA Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
“We implore everyone to defend and support those who reveal atrocities and advocate for the marginalized.
“South Africa calls for an immediate ceasefire and the safeguarding of Palestinian lives and rights.”
Amnesty International, a reputable and fiercely independent NGO, is recognized for its thorough and comprehensive reports, and this latest document adheres to that high standard.
