Spurs’ Winless Streak Persists as Durban City Surpasses Milford

Durban City has taken the top spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings after a commanding 3-0 victory over Leruma United, thanks to a brace from Samkelo Maseko and a goal from Saziso Magawana at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Milford FC fell to fourth position after managing a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, which allowed promotion-chasing Lidoda Duvha to maintain fifth place.

The KZN teams are gearing up for a vital top-of-the-table encounter on Sunday, 14 December, as the competition for the second-tier title heats up. JDR Stars climbed to second place following a tight 1-0 win against Hungry Lions at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

In mid-table developments, newly promoted Kruger United extended their unbeaten run to six matches with a 3-1 away triumph over Upington City, moving up three positions to seventh, while Upington fell to 11th after enduring a seven-match winless streak.

On a challenging note, the University of Pretoria faced a setback in their promotion ambitions, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, leaving them eight points away from the top. At the lower end of the table, Venda FC continues to struggle, sitting in last place as they battle to avoid relegation.

The Vhembe-based team faced a 4-2 loss against Baroka FC at Global Stadium. Pretoria Callies’ hopes for a late comeback were dashed by Lethabo Modimoeng, who scored in stoppage time to give Orbit College a 3-2 victory at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving Callies in 13th place with 13 points.

In their attempt to rebound from their relegation struggles, Cape Town Spurs’ difficulties continued as they have yet to win a league match in their past nine appearances, with their latest defeat being a 1-0 loss to new entrants Highbury FC.

The Urban Warriors find themselves precariously positioned in 14th place, tied on 10 points with 15th-place Leruma, and narrowly ahead of Venda FC, as they prepare for an imminent relegation battle against Callies in their next match on Friday, 13 December.
