Gauteng Police Save Two Abducted Businessmen and Apprehend Seven Suspects
Johannesburg – Gauteng police have freed two businessmen who were kidnapped and have apprehended seven suspects.
Authorities confiscated firearms, mobile phones, and vehicles utilized in the criminal activities.
Describing the circumstances leading to the arrests, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk stated: “On Saturday, (7 December 2024), a Chinese businessman was hijacked and abducted in Springs, Ekurhuleni by a group of individuals.”
Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk further noted: “Within 24 hours, a multi-disciplinary team acted on intelligence that directed them to the kidnappers’ location.”
“The team intercepted the abductors’ vehicle, an Audi A3, at an intersection in Lenasia and apprehended two suspects on Sunday, (8 December 2024).
“Subsequently, the team proceeded to an address in Meriting where they apprehended one additional kidnapper and rescued the businessman.”
Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk mentioned that in a separate incident, on 1 December 2024, another businessman was hijacked and kidnapped by a group of suspects in Wierdabrug.
“The victim’s vehicle was later discovered in the Heuweloord area,” she said.
“An intelligence unit led a multi-disciplinary team to recover the kidnappers’ vehicle, a Jeep, which had been abandoned in a garage in Nellmapius, Tshwane.”
Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk explained that the team followed a lead that led them to an address in Mamelodi, Tshwane, where they arrested four more suspects and rescued two kidnapped victims.
“Firearms, mobile phones, a Jeep SRT8, and a Hyundai Getz were seized,” stated Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.
“Investigations into both incidents are still in progress.
“These operations would not have been possible without the collaboration of other law enforcement agencies and private security.”
