Johannesburg – Thulani Mngomezulu, a defence lawyer involved in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, has sadly passed away in hospital.
Family spokesperson Dumisile Mngomezulu shared the news, stating: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of our cherished husband, father, and son.”
“We confirm that he passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of December 10, 2024, at Vosloorus’ Thelle Moroerane Hospital.”
As the murder trial was being broadcast live on television, Lawyer Mngomezulu became a recognizable figure to many viewers.
He represented Muzikawukhulelwa “Muzi” Sibiya, who is the first accused in the ongoing trial.
Since November 8, 2024, Mngomezulu had been absent from court due to health issues.
“During this time of sorrow, we kindly request your empathy, space, and time to come together as a family to make decisions for the days ahead,” the family spokesperson said.
“Thank you for your love and support in advance, and we ask that you keep us in your prayers.”
Social media users quickly reminded their followers that trial Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng had previously implied that the ailing lawyer Mngomezulu might be avoiding court appearances.
