A mother’s tragic quest for her missing daughter ended in sorrow when she found out that her child had been killed.

“I last saw her on Wednesday before I left for work. When I returned Thursday morning, I found the door open, and the burglar gate unlocked,” Masa recounted.
At first, she thought Thina might be visiting a neighbor and went to bed. By Friday, worries over her daughter’s absence led her to contact friends and Thina’s boyfriend, but no one had seen her since Tuesday.
The Disturbing Discovery
When Masa reported Thina as missing to the police, an unsettling detail came to light. “The detective asked me to describe my daughter and mentioned a woman’s body found in a ditch,” she recalled. Masa had heard about the find on Facebook but had dismissed it as unrelated due to different descriptions given initially.

When the detective displayed items retrieved with the victim, Masa’s worst fears were confirmed. “He showed me her cerise pink dress and shoes. I recognized they belonged to my daughter,” she said, noting that the officer had spared her from seeing the victim’s injuries.
Police Inquiry and Arrest
According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the body was located in a ditch in Asanda Village, Cape Town, on Thursday evening by a passerby. A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder.
“The victim’s body was discovered by a member of the public who informed the police. The circumstances surrounding her death are currently being investigated,” Twigg stated.

The suspect, who appeared in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday, is unfamiliar to the family. “I don’t recognize him. He looks like a thug,” Masa remarked, indicating that the suspect claimed to have no permanent residence.
Fundiswa Masa is now left to cope with the devastating loss of her daughter. “She was so young and didn’t deserve this,” Masa said, her voice laden with sorrow.
Police investigations are ongoing as the community mourns yet another life ended by violence.
