Two pedestrians killed in multi-vehicle crash on Old Dutch Road in Durban.

Durban – A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Old Dutch Road in Durban Saturday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of two pedestrians.

According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the incident, which involved five vehicles, took place shortly after 12:30 at an intersection.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson stated that upon the paramedics’ arrival, they discovered that “five vehicles had collided in the intersection, and several of them veered off the roadway, striking pedestrians.”

Jamieson further mentioned: “Paramedics quickly requested additional support to manage the multiple casualty situation. 

“Using a triage system, they determined that two male pedestrians had been hit while on the pavement.

“Tragically, one of the individuals, a male in his 30s, suffered severe injuries, and paramedics were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Jamieson reported that a second male pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s, suffered critical injuries and was placed on a manual ventilator by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being rushed to a nearby specialized facility, but unfortunately, he also succumbed to his injuries.

At least five additional individuals from the involved vehicles received treatment on-site from ALS Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital in Durban.

The circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear at this time.

Officials from the South African Police Service were present at the scene.
