Marrianhill – Once again, a haulage truck collided with several vehicles at the Marrianhill Toll Plaza on the N3 over the weekend.

Ten bus passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Prince Mashiyeni Hospital for treatment.

“Given the driver’s acknowledgment of the brake failure, we believe that the truck owner should be held responsible,” stated Siboniso Duma, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements.

“Additionally, we are enhancing our roadworthiness inspections by deploying 197 traffic officers from the Road Traffic Management Corporation.

“We express our gratitude to the national Department of Transport for this deployment.”

The newly assigned officers will complement the efforts of over 2,745 traffic officers already enforcing traffic regulations and monitoring our roadways to ensure user safety.

MEC Duma highlighted that the 197 traffic officers would contribute to policing regions notorious for hazardous conditions.

High-risk areas for vehicle accidents—some of which have resulted in fatalities—are identified in Durban, Mtubatuba, and Ugu.
