Moscow Metro and Trams Decked out for the New Year Celebrations

Moscow – The public transportation system in Moscow is once again embracing the festive season, with joyful decorations brightening the metro and tram lines throughout the city.

Continuing a beloved tradition that has lasted over 50 years, the Moscow metro has introduced a special New Year’s train on Line 5.

This themed train is adorned with over 700 three-dimensional decorations, featuring snowmen, Christmas trees, snowflakes, and holiday ornaments, effectively creating a winter wonderland in each carriage.

This decoration initiative is part of the preparations for the New Year celebrations in Moscow.

Under the guidance of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the city’s metro system has launched trains decked out in festive decorations.

This year, a Winter train, showcasing symbols of the upcoming holiday season, has been introduced on the Circular Line.

“We believe it will spread joy to passengers. The festive train will be available for enjoyment until January 31, 2025,” remarked Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

In addition to the metro celebrations, 60 Vityaz-Moscow trams have been beautifully illuminated with sparkling lights and garlands to honor the New Year.

This marks a significant increase as the number of decorated trams has doubled from last year.

Deputy Mayor Liksutov commented: “New Year’s trams have become a cherished tradition in our city.

“Following the directive of Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are once again crafting a festive environment for the residents and visitors of Moscow.”

With 60 beautifully adorned trams, a new record has been achieved.

These illuminated trams can be spotted on 28 different routes throughout the city.

Further enriching the festive ambiance, eight facades of metro stations and Moscow Central Circle (MCC) stations located in the city center have been adorned with decorations, and Two Hearts of the Capital installations have finally been placed near nine station entrances.
