Sonia Mbele’s Son, Donell Mbele, Accused of Rape and Granted R1,000 Bail
Johannesburg – Donell Mbele, the son of celebrated actress Sonia Mbele, appeared before the Randburg Magistrates’ Court facing two charges of rape and was granted R1 000 bail.
The allegations arise from a report filed by his 17-year-old girlfriend with the police in Sandton, who claims that Mbele assaulted her on the 14th and 15th of December 2024.
The complainant accuses the 23-year-old of conducting the assaults at his residence in Morningside, Johannesburg.
Detailing the events leading to the court proceedings, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Gauteng Spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, stated that the complainant informed the police that the couple was on a date at ClearWater Mall.
“After having some drinks and realizing that the restaurant they were at was about to close, they both decided to head to another location.
“She mentioned that the accused expressed a desire to stop by his home to charge his phone.
“It was upon their arrival that the alleged incidents took place.”
The NPA announced that the case has been postponed to 10 February 2025 for further investigation, with the accused released on R1 000 bail.
