Cardoso lays out the guidelines for Adams
Mamelodi Sundowns’ coach Miguel Cardoso highlights that every newcomer to the team, including recently signed Jayden Adams, must prove their value to the technical staff to gain playing opportunities.
The Bafana Bafana midfielder recently finalized a long-term contract with the Brazilians, as announced on Saturday, after playing a key role in Stellenbosch’s progression to the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
Adams becomes the third player to leave Steve Barker’s squad this season, following Iqraam Rayners’ move to Sundowns and Deano Van Rooyen’s transfer to Orlando Pirates.
“In regard to the transfer market, the club will certainly look for opportunities to enhance the team,” Cardoso stated.
“Nevertheless, we trust our current players, and any incoming member of the squad must validate their skills. They need to prove they can outperform our existing players, and then we will assess their role.”
“Therefore, [Jayden] Adams and any future recruits are expected to affirm their capabilities to the technical staff. When acquiring a new player, I made it clear on Saturday that we expect them to aim high, share their ambitions, and work hard to realize them.
“If this happens, everyone will certainly rally behind us, as we stay open to evaluating daily performances, ensuring that the players who perform well are the ones who take the field.
“In the end, we have significant competition, and we anticipate a lot from those who join our squad. It’s also our duty to help them integrate into the team, unlocking their potential so they can truly demonstrate their contributions to the collective.”
