Erasmus Joins New Club – Sportswire

Casric Stars, participants in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, have completed the acquisition of former Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City, and SuperSport United star Kermit Erasmus on a free transfer.

The experienced 34-year-old forward became a free agent after concluding his contract with the Soweto giants at the end of the previous season, joining Richard Ofori, Fortune Makaringe, Thabang Monare, and Souaibou Marou in their departures.

A player affectionately known as Romeo, he was linked to several Betway Premiership teams after leaving Pirates. However, no agreements were reached, leaving him in search of a new club for six months.

In October, Erasmus trained for a week with the second-tier club Cape Town Spurs while seeking a contract, but the team ultimately opted against signing him. Ernst Middendorp explained that they felt the talented forward was suited for a higher division.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach expressed concerns that the Gqeberha-born striker might move to a Betway Premiership club upon regaining full fitness, referencing Thato Mokeke’s exit from the Cape Club following his own return to match fitness.

Moreover, there were speculations regarding a potential move to his hometown club Chippa United, as he was spotted training with the Chilli Boys. Similarly, other negotiations, including a possible return to the Citizens, fell through when both parties couldn’t come to an agreement on terms.

In the end, it is the promotion-chasing sixth-placed team that successfully secured the versatile player’s signature. The Mpumalanga outfit, currently seven points behind league leaders Durban City, hopes that this noteworthy addition will enhance their chances for promotion.

The former Bafana international has an impressive record consisting of three league titles, three MTN8 trophies, and five Nedbank Cup wins throughout his illustrious career at the highest level. It will be intriguing to see how he performs at his new club.
