Arteta Criticizes Referee Michael Oliver’s Calls Amid Police Investigation Following Arsenal’s Sending Off
MIKEL ARTETA expressed his dissatisfaction with referee Michael Oliver’s choices and urged football officials to eradicate “hatred” from the sport.
Authorities are currently investigating the abusive remarks aimed at Oliver following his controversial sending off of defender Myles Lewis-Skelly in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Wolves this past weekend.
The young defender for the Gunners has had his three-match suspension revoked by an independent committee after the club lodged an appeal on Tuesday morning – despite Lewis-Skelly being ASLEEP on the plane during the announcement.
However, referee Oliver is presently under police supervision due to supposed threats made against him and his two-year-old daughter, which left the PGMOL “appalled.”
Arsenal’s head coach Arteta – who has voiced his disapproval of the online harassment targeted at his player Kai Havertz in the past – stated: “Whether it is a player, coach, or referee — it’s all interconnected.
“We must not accept this hatred and the distressing occurrences we witness, as they affect all parties and ultimately take away the joy of this sport.
“We need to heighten our initiatives to remove this detrimental facet of the game that brings only damage and suffering, complicating lives. Let’s put an end to it, let’s stop it.
“For the good of everyone in football. Such conduct should not be tolerated. We neither want it nor need it, and it undoubtedly stains our sport.
“We can discuss it, yet it appears that insufficient action is being taken because it’s utterly intolerable. Why hasn’t there been any response?”
“We are constantly focused on the future of football, contemplating the next five to ten years concerning rules and related matters.

“Nonetheless, the most vital step we can take is to encourage a more positive social environment: one that is healthier and more inclusive.
“We should celebrate aspects beyond just victories and ensure opportunities for redemption when mistakes occur.”
