Eskom Stops Load-Shedding as Reserve Levels Improve

Johannesburg – Eskom has lifted load-shedding, citing that the power utility has successfully restored adequate reserves.

Daphne Mokwena, the Eskom spokesperson, announced that load-shedding was halted early on Sunday morning, (2 February 2025).

“Thanks to the substantial replenishment of our emergency reserves, load-shedding was suspended today at 06:00 AM. Eskom will issue updates should any significant developments arise,” Mokwena stated.

Prior to this suspension, Eskom had enacted Stage 3 load-shedding on Friday, (31 January 2025).

In discussing the reinstatement of load-shedding after 10 months without electricity interruptions, Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane explained: “During the last week, we faced multiple breakdowns that necessitate extended repair times.”

Marokane further mentioned: “This situation has required us to utilize all our emergency reserves, which now need to be replenished over the weekend.”

“This is a short-term challenge, as load-shedding is mostly behind us due to significant enhancements in the generation fleet.”

Although Eskom had previously announced that Stage 3 load-shedding would commence from Friday, (31 January 2025), at 17:00 until Sunday, (2 February 2025), at midnight, the power restrictions were lifted much sooner.
