Cash-in-transit Robbery Results in One Death and Multiple Injuries

Durban – Tragically, one individual has lost their life and several others have been injured due to gunfire during a Cash-in-Transit Heist on the N2 northbound, close to the NPC Cement Factory.

The casualties from this armed robbery, which took place shortly after 6 am on Tuesday, (4 February 2025), were discovered across various locations.

Officials from ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the South African Police Service (SAPS), and Metro Police arrived at the scene simultaneously.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, “Paramedics discovered that a cash-in-transit vehicle had been forced off the road and subsequently detonated by several suspects who then made off with its contents.”

“Upon assessing the scene, paramedics found multiple individuals injured. A triage system was quickly established and additional ambulances along with Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to handle the situation,” he added.

“At the scene, paramedics provided treatment to three security officers with various injuries, who were stabilized prior to being transported to a nearby hospital in Durban.”

Jamieson noted that approximately 500 meters from the initial crime scene, three bus passengers on their way to work had also sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

These victims were stabilized by ALS Paramedics and taken to several hospitals throughout Durban.

Additionally, two individuals on the M1 Higginson Highway, near the N2 Bridge, were also treated for gunshot wounds.

They received treatment at the scene before being transported to a hospital.

Furthermore, Jamieson reported that more injured parties connected to the heist were located on Silverglen Drive in Chatsworth.

“Two females, believed to be in their 30s, along with a security officer, suffered from gunshot and assault wounds,” Jamieson stated.

“Regrettably, one female in her 30s had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared deceased at the scene, with no further action possible from paramedics.”

“The other two patients were stabilized by ALS Paramedics before being taken to a hospital.”

Jamieson informed that SAPS had closed the N2 in both directions between the M7 and M1 Higginson Highway for their ongoing investigations.
