US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Refuses G20 Attendance Due to False Claims of Land Grab in South Africa
Pretoria – Despite strong denials, the United States of America persists in making unfounded assertions that South Africa is “engaging in very negative actions, such as expropriating private property”.
The misleading accusations against South Africa seem to have been ignited by the recently enacted Expropriation Act.

In reaction to Rubio’s comments, South Africa’s International Relations and Co-Operation Minister Ronald Lamola stated: “There is no arbitrary confiscation of land or private property. This legislation is akin to Eminent Domain Laws.”
Minister Lamola continued: “We are a sovereign and democratic nation devoted to human dignity, equality, and rights, advocating for non-racialism and non-sexism while prioritizing our constitution and the rule of law.”
“Solidarity/Ubuntu promotes collaborative problem-solving.
“Our G20 Presidency encompasses more than just climate change; it also advocates for equitable treatment for Global South nations, striving for a fair global system for everyone.”
“These are vital principles that we are eager to pursue and discuss further with the United States.”
Rubio’s misguided comments echo US President Donald Trump’s earlier unfounded claims.
