‘Referee Steps in During Luke Littler vs. Luke Humphries Darts Final Due to Rowdy Crowd’

The referee had to intervene due to fan behavior during Luke Littler’s victory in the Premier League darts competition in Glasgow.

The 18-year-old world champion emerged triumphant over Luke Humphries with a score of 6-5 in the final, sealing his win on the competition’s second night.

Nevertheless, the match was overshadowed by instances of poor fan behavior at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro Arena.

A portion of the audience disrupted the play by whistling at inappropriate times while both competitors were preparing their shots.

Humphries, nursing a cut on his finger, and Littler were clearly affected by the cacophony.

In a crucial moment when the score was level at 4-4, Cool Hand appeared distracted by the spectators.

Humphries, requiring a checkout of 119, only managed to score 59.

He turned to referee Kirk Bevins, who then firmly addressed the audience through the microphone, stating, “Stop whistling.”

Unfortunately, this only incited more fans to join in.

This disruption also impacted Littler, who needed just 45 to claim victory but ultimately wasted his score.

Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle remarked: “That person should be cautious because Kirk can handle himself.”

As the whistling persisted, he further commented: “Why hasn’t that individual been removed?”

Sky Sports reporter Abigail Davies tweeted: “Once again, a huge shoutout to those who invested their money to see the top darts players in the world but chose to hinder their performances by whistling.

“Really classy move. You can’t be a true fan of the sport if you act this way.”

Fans took to social media to voice their disdain for the Glasgow crowd’s actions, with one comment stating: “Easily the worst crowd – absolute fools whistling and everyone joining in when warned to stop.”

Another added: “Seriously, something needs to be done about the whistling at darts. Just kick the fools out! It will keep happening if no steps are taken.”

After his win, Littler reflected on the atmosphere, saying: “It was a rather unusual final. Neither of us were at our best.

“I occasionally checked the screen and we were averaging around 90. The crowd was quite involved.”
