Power Outage Hits Benoni: Urgent Pylon Repairs Cause Supply Disruption

Benoni – An outage is currently impacting multiple regions in Benoni to allow Eskom to perform essential maintenance and repair work on a compromised overhead line pylon structure.

The City of Ekurhuleni has announced that this operation is set to take place on Sunday, (16 February 2025), from 09:00 to 17:00, affecting various areas in Benoni.

“Eskom has confirmed that the power supply to Benoni’s intake points will be entirely suspended during this timeframe,” stated the City of Ekurhuleni.

Areas impacted include:

  • Benoni South industrial zones, Actonville, Wattville, Tamboville, Emandleni, The Stewards, Apex
  • The entire Benoni CBD, Lakeview, Western Extension, Mackenzie Park, Dewaldt Hattingh Park, New Modder, Rynsoord, N12 Informal Settlement, Kleinfontein 67IR, Benoni 77IR, Westdene
  • Lakefield, Alphen Park, Farrarmere, Airfield, Northmead and its Extensions, parts of Rynfield and its Extensions
  • Morehill and its Extensions, Golden Drive Industries, Vlakfontein 69IR
  • Norton Homes Estates, Norton Park and its Extensions, Jatniel, Benoni North AH, Benoni Small Farms, Brentwood Park and its Extensions, Brentwood Park AH, Vlakfontein 29 and 30IR

“The City’s Energy Department will remain on standby to oversee the restoration of power once Eskom has finished its repairs,” the City of Ekurhuleni noted.

“However, residents should be aware that power restoration is contingent upon the progress of Eskom’s repairs.

“Citizens and businesses are encouraged to treat all electrical appliances as live and to take necessary precautions.

Moreover, all service requests concerning electricity issues in the affected regions during the outage will be automatically closed, and only those not related to the scheduled outage will be addressed.

The City of Ekurhuleni affirmed it will continue to liaise with Eskom and provide updates through ward councillors and official communication channels should any alterations to the planned outage occur.

“For additional inquiries, residents can reach out to their ward councillors or follow the City’s official platforms,” the City of Ekurhuleni stated.
