September: Mammila’s Return Sparks Revival in the Club
Chippa United’s head coach Thabo September has disclosed that he was in favor of appointing Morgan Mammila as the second assistant coach for the Chilli Boys.
Mammila returned to the Chilli Boys this month, making his first appearance on the bench during an emphatic 4-1 victory over Magesi, a team currently at the bottom of the league, at Seshego Stadium.
In that match, Mammila was officially designated as the second assistant coach, although the game was completed the following day due to electrical issues at the newly constructed stadium. After Chippa’s 3-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 on Saturday, September elaborated on the reasons behind Mammila’s return to the Chilli Boys.
“When Morgan [Mammila] left, I was co-coaching with coach [Kwanele] Kopo. At that point, the club was offering him a role he deemed unsuitable,” September expressed.
“Now that he has come back, it’s because I needed support. He possesses a great understanding of the players, along with myself and coach Mabhuti [Khenyeza].

“He is incredibly advantageous to the players, both on and off the field, and he excels in his function. In football, it’s crucial to have individuals who can offer support, and when someone possesses talent, they should embrace their capabilities.
“His skills are invaluable, which is why his reappointment was positively received and sanctioned by the chairman. As a result, he is an essential part of the team in that role.”
This is Morgan Mammila’s third stint with the 2013/14 champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, having previously held positions as CEO, head coach, and technical director, and now as an assistant coach.
Former Golden Arrows co-coach Mabhuti Khenyeza continues to act as the first assistant coach, while Mammila steps into the role of second assistant coach.
Mammila and the Chilli Boys are scheduled to face Cape Town City, a team located in Cape Town, at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday evening at 19:30.
