NSFAS Announces Allowance Payments and Final Caps for 2025

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has announced the completion and distribution of allowance payments for the 2025 academic year. This initiative has been undertaken in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as well as the Post School Education and Training sector.

The scheme has provided a comprehensive breakdown of allocations for both university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students, including individuals with disabilities.

Payment Dates and Compliance Guidelines

NSFAS confirmed that payments for TVET colleges began on 7 March, covering allowances for two months. A subsequent payment run was planned for 14 March, with a deadline for registration uploads set for 10 March.

For universities, NSFAS issued the second upfront payment in early March, allowing institutions to distribute March allowances to students by 7 March. The next payment is anticipated by the end of March 2025.

Institutions are reminded to upload valid registration data to avoid any disruptions. Additionally, students who have submitted funding appeals should ensure their required documents are submitted within 30 days to prevent delays in funding decisions.

NSFAS has also stated that institutions wishing to exceed the approved allowance limits must seek written approval before processing payments beyond these set caps.
