Michael van Gerwen Advised by Doctor to Address Ongoing Health Concerns, Friend Warns Against Ignoring Medical Advice
DARTS star Michael van Gerwen has been grappling with a health issue since January, struggling to “shake it off.”
This revelation comes from his close friend and darts professional Vincent van der Voort, who noted that Van Gerwen, aged 35, has been visiting doctors regarding a “virus or infection” he picked up.

Van der Voort, 49, disclosed that his Dutch counterpart fell ill during a holiday in Thailand.
Due to his health struggles, Van Gerwen has been showing inconsistent form and returned to the Netherlands earlier than expected after his first-round exit in the Players Championship.
On the Darts Draait Door podcast, Van der Voort said: “He has been battling with a virus or infection for some time now.
“He contracted it while in Thailand in early January, and hasn’t been able to recover. Additionally, he’s not performing at his peak.”
He went on to say: “He was already at the doctor’s this morning.
Podcast host Damian Vlottes proposed that taking a break might be the best approach for Van Gerwen.
However, Van der Voort replied: “When is he expected to do that? He can’t just miss tournaments.”
Despite these health issues, Van Gerwen is scheduled to compete in Cardiff for the seventh night of the Premier League Darts.
Mighty Mike will challenge Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals on Thursday before heading straight to another European Tour event.
MVG also needs to secure his spot in the Players Championship Finals, where he currently ranks 70th.
I laughed when I discovered I was playing against Van Gerwen, but a pep talk from my wife helped me win, says Irish care worker.
Van der Voort remarked: “The doctor cautioned him that it’s highly inadvisable to spend so much time on planes, as that’s where germs spread easily.
“But what alternative does he have?”
