SuperSport terminates partnership with Hunt – Official Statement from Sportswire
SuperSport United has officially confirmed the departure of Gavin Hunt.
Sportswire had previously reported on Thursday that Hunt would be leaving the club, and this was officially verified by the club on Friday morning.
Following Hunt’s departure, the club has announced that Andre Arendse will step in as the caretaker coach, with Grant Johnson serving as his assistant.
“SuperSport United FC and Head Coach Gavin Hunt have mutually agreed to separate effective immediately,” SuperSport stated.
“The board and management of the club expressed their appreciation to Hunt for his contributions as Head Coach over the years. We believe that Gavin has much to offer South African and African football due to his extensive knowledge and experience.

“We will always be grateful for the impact he has had on the team and South African football. Andre Arendse will take over as interim Head Coach with Goalkeeper Coach Grant Johnson as his assistant. We wish Coach Gavin all the best in his future endeavors.”
This marks the second time Arendse has been appointed as caretaker coach at SuperSport. He previously held this position during the 2021/22 season following Kaitano Tembo’s exit. After that season, SuperSport appointed Hunt, who returned to the club after securing three league titles and a Nedbank Cup in his first stint.
During his second term, SuperSport finished third in the 2022/23 season and seventh in the most recent season. Last month, Hunt became the first coach to manage 1,000 matches in the PSL, although the game against Golden Arrows faced interruptions due to load shedding. Hunt leaves the club positioned second from the bottom in the Betway Premiership table, with 21 points from 21 matches.
