Former Police Officer Sentenced for Corruption in Mthatha
Luyanda Xinishe, a former police officer, has been sentenced to three years of direct imprisonment due to corruption.
The incident dates back to a 2018 motor vehicle accident in which Xinishe neglected to complete an essential accident report form, vital for the complainant to file a claim with the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

Subsequently, Xinishe reached out to the complainant, requesting a J88 medical form along with a R1,000 bribe to finalize the report.
Hawks And NPA Collaborate In Investigation
The complainant promptly reported the incident to the Hawks, prompting an investigation to commence.
On 22 August 2022, the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team executed an operation that resulted in Xinishe’s arrest while he was in the process of accepting the bribe.

The partnership between the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) led to a conviction aimed at eliminating corruption within the police department.
Court Ruling And Consequences For Corruption
Xinishe appeared before the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, where he received a three-year jail term without the option of a fine.
