MK Party alleges that GNU purposely excluded Zuma from Namibian President’s Inauguration
Johannesburg – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) is expressing its dissatisfaction regarding the lack of official recognition for its leader, former president Jacob Zuma, at the inauguration of Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 22, 2025, the MK Party stated that it “strongly condemns the DA-led coalition, the so-called Government of National Unity, for attempting to erase President Zuma’s presence at President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s inauguration from South African history.”
The statement further noted: “An official post on X, formerly known as ‘Twitter,’ by the country’s official account (@GovernmentZA), currently managed by the Ramaphosa administration, included images from the inauguration ceremony. However, the caption acknowledged other former heads of state while intentionally omitting H.E. President Jacob G. Zuma, despite his attendance.”
“This blatant act of political provocation, paired with their unfounded ‘9 wasted years’ campaign aiming to distort a significant and positive chapter of our nation’s history, serves only to aggravate the MK Party, mislead the public, and create an inaccurate and unjust narrative.”
“By intentionally choosing not to recognize the President’s presence at the inauguration, the so-called GNU has insulted not only President Zuma but also the nation as a whole.”
The MK Party criticized the use of state-owned platforms, such as official social media accounts, for promoting partisan political agendas, arguing that it undermines fairness and impartiality.
“Such actions threaten the integrity of democratic processes by manipulating public perception and opinion through the dissemination of selective information,” the statement explained.
“It is the responsibility of the GNU to ensure that official government social media platforms act as neutral environments that encourage open and honest discussions, rather than being utilized to advance political propaganda.”
“The MK Party emphasizes that President Jacob Zuma was indeed present and was warmly welcomed by both the Namibian community and the delegates in attendance.”
The statement continued: “It is regrettable that the current government, referred to as the GNU, views President Zuma as such a threat that they resort to efforts to erase his presence in matters of national significance.”
“This calculated act of political erasure is not only a manifestation of petty politics but also a significant affront to South Africa’s history.”
“The MK Party firmly asserts that President Jacob Zuma is going nowhere despite any deliberate attempts to obliterate his presence and legacy.”
