“When they arrived, the officers found emergency responders already present, and the mortuary vehicle was fully ablaze, with the driver still inside,” stated Dlamini.
The second victim, a passenger, was found on the ground beside a large fallen tree. Paramedics pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Superstitious Beliefs or Mere Coincidence?
Initial reports suggest that the mortuary vehicle had just picked up a body from the hospital when the passenger requested a detour to the place where the deceased had died, thought to be a ritual to “guide his spirit home.”
However, during this detour, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a tree before it burst into flames.
As emergency services secured the scene, investigators have not dismissed potential causes such as speeding, mechanical issues, or other external contributors.
