Water Supply Potentially Disrupted in Louwlardia due to Tshwane Incident

Pretoria – On Tuesday, (25 March 2025), the City of Tshwane’s Department of Water and Sanitation will proceed with the relocation of an existing water pipeline located on Olievenhoutbosch Road and K220 in Louwlardia Extension 36.

“This relocation is essential to facilitate the widening of the road,” stated the City of Tshwane.

“The pipeline will be repositioned within the new road reserve to ease maintenance operations.”

Although efforts will be made to prevent any disruption to the water supply, the City of Tshwane cautioned that some interruptions may occur intermittently between 08:00 and 18:00 in the following areas and business facilities:

  • Louwlardia Extension 36, 38, 25, and 72
  • Shoprite Checkers Distribution Centre
  • Shoprite Checkers Office Park
  • Woolworths Distribution Centre

The City of Tshwane encourages residents to incorporate the following water-conservation practices into their daily routines:

  • Refrain from watering or irrigating gardens with hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • Avoid washing vehicles with hosepipes.
  • Do not fill swimming pools. Residents are also encouraged to use grey water for gardening and toilet flushing.

Residents are urged to report any water leaks, burst pipes, and any instances of water wastage.

Where feasible, residents should install water-saving devices. They are also encouraged to adopt the following water-saving suggestions:

  • Install a low-flow showerhead and tap aerators whenever possible.
  • Utilize a dual-flush toilet cistern.
  • Opt for indigenous or drought-resistant plants in gardens.
  • Use a broom instead of a hosepipe for cleaning driveways or patios.
  • Collect rainwater for reuse in gardens or for washing cars.
  • Cover swimming pools to minimize water evaporation.
  • Prefer taking showers over baths.
  • Turn off running taps while brushing teeth or shaving.
  • Regularly inspect toilets and taps for leaks.

The City of Tshwane regrets any inconvenience this road widening work may cause.
