Zimbabwe’s Surprising Draw Against Nigeria Shocks in World Cup Qualifier
Nigeria’s Super Eagles saw their chances of World Cup qualification fade as they ended in a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe at Godswill Akpabio Stadium during the FIFA World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday evening.
Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray forward who scored twice in their previous match against Rwanda, contributed the only goal for the Super Eagles. Unfortunately, 23-year-old Tawanda Blessing Chirewa found the net for Zimbabwe in the closing moments of the game, leaving the home side devastated.
The Super Eagles have struggled to secure wins lately, with only one victory, three draws, and one loss in their last five matches. Following today’s draw, they now have four draws within their group.
Nigeria is currently positioned fourth in Group C with seven points after playing six matches. Their next fixtures are scheduled for September against Rwanda and the table leaders, Bafana Bafana.
In the same group, Bafana Bafana solidified their lead in FIFA World Cup Group C by defeating Benin 2-0 at the neutral Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

Goals from Lyle Foster and Jayden Adams in the second half propelled Bafana Bafana to 13 points after six matches, extending their lead to three points over Rwanda, who drew with Lesotho.
