Jason Goliath to Host TopGear SA’s ‘Star In a Reasonably Priced Car’ Premiere in April
Johannesburg – Buckle up, because TopGear South Africa is set to introduce one of the most legendary global motoring segments to our local audience: “Star in a Reasonably Priced Car”, debuting this April exclusively on the TopGear South Africa YouTube Channel.
This internationally loved and delightfully competitive segment has entertained viewers around the globe, and now it’s South Africa’s opportunity to hit the track and strive for lap-time greatness with a uniquely local flavor.
In each episode, well-known South Africans will take on the Formula-K racetrack in Benoni, behind the wheel of our specially modified Suzuki Swift – the perfect blend of affordability, agility, and enjoyment.
Why Jason Goliath?
There’s no better choice for delivering witty banter, humor, and raw adrenaline than comedian and avid petrolhead Jason Goliath.
With his innate storytelling abilities, genuine passion for cars, and undeniable charm, Jason is the ideal host for this thrilling format.
Prepare for high-speed laughs, heartfelt stories, thrilling tyre screeches, and loads of cheeky commentary.

What’s the show about?
This show isn’t solely focused on driving – it’s about the drivers themselves. From their first vehicle to their ideal ride, from feeling nervous on the track to embracing turbocharged confidence, viewers will experience deep, often outrageous celebrity interviews, character-filled lap attempts, and thrilling leaderboard updates. All presented with the signature TopGear flair.
The reasonably priced car making waves?
Get ready, South Africa, because the new Reasonably Priced Car for our celebrity hot laps has arrived — and it’s the spirited Suzuki Swift!
This car is the perfect fit for our star guests: affordable enough to keep your accountant happy, common enough that you likely passed a few on your way here, fuel-efficient enough to make a Prius look bad, and so enjoyable to drive that each roundabout feels like a tight corner at Kyalami.
But true to Top Gear style, we haven’t kept it stock.
Craig O’Donaghue and his team at C O Motorsports have transformed this Swift into a track-ready powerhouse, and with generous support from ATS for the build, it now boasts OMP bucket seats, a 6-point roll cage, a six-point racing harness, and helmets to ensure our star drivers are secure and protected as they push their limits.
Make no mistake: this is no ordinary Swift – it’s a sleeker, more formidable version designed to take celebrities to their limits without mercy (but with safety in mind).
In homage to the iconic UK series, which famously featured the Suzuki Liana, the Swift’s inclusion feels right at home, thanks to its dynamic handling and remarkable affordability.
The Track?
Filming is set to take place at the Formula K Race Track — a top-tier facility located just outside Johannesburg. With its intricate corners, sweeping curves, and high-speed straights, Formula K is the perfect playground to challenge driving skills and every ounce of performance from our Reasonably Priced Car.
It’s compact enough for tight action yet challenging enough for every lap to feel like a showdown.
Who’s behind the scenes powering TopGear SA?
The local TopGear team is driven by media visionaries Avon Middleton and Lerato Matebese – the co-founders of Clipping Point Publishing and the daring duo who have brought the TopGear brand to life in South Africa.
Avon, a skilled producer and multimedia strategist, contributes the vision and business acumen, while Lerato, an award-winning motoring journalist, drives the editorial endeavor as Publishing Editor.
Together, they’ve crafted a high-performance platform that is rapidly becoming South Africa’s premier automotive content destination.
How are guests chosen?
Guests are meticulously selected based on their influence, personality, and enthusiasm (or at least a fondness) for cars.
Be it a chart-topping artist, a beloved actor, a sports legend, or a cultural innovator, they are invited not just for entertainment — but to test their prowess, nerves, and humor on the racetrack.
