Electricity Restored to Parts of Centurion After Brakfontein Substation Fire

Pretoria – Certain regions impacted by the electricity outage in Centurion, which was triggered by a fire at the Brakfontein Substation, have had their power restored.

“The blaze took place at the 132/11kV Substation in Brakfontein on Thursday, (3 April 2025), around 19:45, resulting in damage to cables and 11kV feeder panels,” the City of Tshwane stated succinctly.

“The Energy and Electricity Department teams are actively engaged in investigations and repair efforts.”

The City of Tshwane reported that its repair crews worked diligently overnight to restore electricity to Eldoraigne, Raslouw, and neighboring regions.

While apologizing for the inconvenience, the City indicated that technicians will continue assessments today with the aim of restoring power to the following areas that are still without electricity:

  • Rooihuiskraal North
  • The Reeds extensions
  • Wierdapark
  • Heuweloord

“Affected customers will be kept informed of any developments,” the City confirmed.

However, Themba Fosi, the Democratic Alliance spokesperson for Utilities at the City of Tshwane, disclosed in a Facebook update that eight panels were damaged in the Brakfontein Substation fire.

He cautioned residents to “expect an extended outage – potentially lasting several days.”

Fosi further stated: “Unfortunately, we are unable to provide precise timeframes at this moment.”
