Newlywed Rescued from Drowning During Suicide Attempt at Umdloti Beach

A 34-year-old bride, who had been married for just a month, was rescued from a near-drowning incident at Umdloti Beach, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday evening following a suicide attempt.

At 18:25, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received an urgent call from the bride’s family, indicating that she had been feeling suicidal after a domestic disagreement.

The family had received a troubling message from her, which mentioned that she was at the beach.

Upon reaching Umdloti Beach, the family found her car but were unable to locate her, prompting them to contact RUSA for assistance.

Dramatic Rescue

Kieran Ramjogi, Operations Manager at RUSA, promptly joined the family in their search for the woman.

Using torches and scanning the shoreline, they discovered her floating in the water, semi-conscious.

Without hesitation, Officer Ramjogi and the woman’s father entered the water to bring her to safety.

Once they rescued her from the water, they immediately began administering CPR on the beach.

Fortunately, she began to vomit, indicating signs of recovery, and was quickly transported to a local hospital for further treatment.
