September Eyes: Top 8 Rankings Remain Unchanged Despite SuperSport Defeat
Thabo September, the head coach of Chippa United, is committed to securing a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership. He emphasized that their future hinges on winning their upcoming matches or relying on losses from teams below them.
This statement follows their 2-0 loss to SuperSport United on Saturday.
Despite the defeat, the Chilli Boys remain in eighth place on the league table, boasting 30 points from 25 matches, maintaining a four-point buffer over SuperSport United, currently in 13th place with 26 points.
When asked about their plans to secure their top-eight status, September provided a clear answer: “It’s vital for us to win our matches or hope the teams beneath us drop points to maintain our position,” he stated.
“Right now, our focus is on Sundowns, and we need to aim for positive results in our two matches against them. Additionally, we have a game against Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, which we must approach with the goal of earning points.”

“We can plan and work hard, but if it’s not destined to happen, then it won’t. We are determined to break into the Top 8. The opportunity is there, and as long as the points indicate we can achieve it, we will continue to strive for it,” he added.
September acknowledges the difficulty of facing Sundowns but is resolute in securing victories in their upcoming matches—starting at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday and continuing at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on May 14.
“Indeed, competing against Sundowns is always a challenge for any team in the league,” September remarked.
“Moreover, the loss of a key player during critical game moments ahead of facing Sundowns certainly doesn’t aid our cause, so we will prepare thoroughly for them.”
“We have capable players, and we are committed to getting ready to achieve a positive result against Sundowns.”
However, Chippa United’s history is not favorable, as they have yet to record a victory against Mamelodi Sundowns in league play.
