Miguel: A Nedbank Cup Win Doesn’t Guarantee Season Success

As Kaizer Chiefs gear up to face Orlando Pirates in the much-anticipated Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday [15:30], defender Inacio Miguel has shared insights into the team’s mentality ahead of this significant match.

Miguel emphasized that the players aren’t feeling any pressure. Instead, they consider the cup final a privilege and a chance to delight their supporters.

“Perhaps for the fans and media, there is some added pressure,” Miguel noted. “But for us as players, there’s no pressure; it’s an honor to participate in this cup final.”

This mindset is vital as the team aims to reclaim some pride after a challenging season in the Betway Premiership, where they currently sit in ninth place with 30 points.

Miguel, who sat out last weekend’s Derby due to concerns regarding a potential fourth yellow card, openly reflected on the team’s league performance, acknowledging that winning the Nedbank Cup wouldn’t erase the disappointments from their season.

“Winning this cup won’t change the reality of our disappointing season, considering our current standing,” he added. “We understand that this has not been a good season and must remain true to ourselves.”

The former Petro de Luanda defender stressed the importance of staying focused on their objectives and not becoming complacent about the prospect of securing a cup victory.

“I have many aspirations to fulfill with the club, so I must remain honest with myself,” he mentioned.

“Winning the Nedbank Cup would undoubtedly bring me joy, but I won’t forget the difficulties we’ve encountered this season.”

Miguel’s remarks highlight the team’s awareness of their situation, with only two league matches left against Polokwane City and Sekhukhune United.
