8 ZCC Members Killed, 16 Injured in Devastating KZN Crash
A devastating accident on the N2 highway in KwaZulu-Natal has claimed the lives of eight members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), turning a sacred Mother’s Day pilgrimage into a tragic occasion. The victims were among a group of 24 congregants—mostly women—heading to Dukuduku in Mtubatuba when their minibus was struck from behind by a tow truck.
The incident occurred near Empangeni, leading emergency services to rush the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities have reported that sixteen individuals are receiving treatment, with four in critical condition.

Those who survived the crash are currently being treated at hospitals in Empangeni. Health officials have not yet released the names of the deceased, as they are still notifying family members.
Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport, conveyed the province’s deep condolences. “The MEC has expressed sorrow and sympathy to the families of the victims,” Sibiya stated, reflecting the department’s grief over this incident.

In response to the tragedy, the provincial transport department has launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash. “The MEC has directed the RTIA [Road Traffic Infringement Agency] to collaborate with the Road Traffic Management Corporation to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into this tragic event,” Sibiya confirmed.
Authorities are urging all road users to remain vigilant, especially on busy weekends, as communities across the nation mourn the loss inflicted by this Mother’s Day tragedy.
