Sundowns Set to Extend Onyango’s Contract
Mamelodi Sundowns plans to renew the contract of their seasoned goalkeeper, Denis Onyango, ensuring that the 40-year-old will stay with the Brazilians for at least another season.
As reported by Sportswire, Onyango’s new agreement will be a one-year extension, which could signify his last season with the Sundowns.
Onyango’s impressive career in South Africa started in 2006 with SuperSport United, where he won three league titles beginning in the 2007/08 season.
He eventually transferred to Mpumalanga Black Aces before joining Sundowns in 2011, who later loaned him to Bidvest Wits.
Since becoming a Sundowns player, Onyango has enjoyed tremendous success, including winning the CAF Champions League in 2016 and claiming nine league titles, with one of them this season.

He is poised to play a vital role in the team’s upcoming matches, including the Champions League final against Egyptian heavyweights Pyramids and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The renewal of Onyango’s contract showcases his commitment and loyalty to the team. Despite his age, Onyango remains a critical component of the Sundowns squad, and his experience is a significant asset for the team’s goals.
Sources indicate that Sundowns also envisions a new role for Onyango, who has made 280 appearances for the club, by considering him for a staff position after retirement, emphasizing his iconic status within the organization.
This strategic initiative will ensure that Onyango’s expertise and insight continue to benefit the team, even after he hangs up his boots.
