Trump Threatens to Divert Harvard Funding to Trade Schools

On Monday, President Donald Trump cautioned about the possibility of reallocating billions in grant funding from Harvard University to trade schools across the country, escalating his dispute with the esteemed institution.

“I am considering redirecting Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money from a very antisemitic Harvard, and distributing it to TRADE SCHOOLS throughout our nation,” Trump expressed in a social media message. “What a tremendous investment that would be for the USA, and it is urgently required!!!”

The Trump administration has already frozen grant funds and attempted to limit Harvard’s enrollment of international students, intensifying the conflict over what the president describes as the university’s failure to combat antisemitism.

This rationale has been used by the administration to pressure universities like Harvard into making significant policy adjustments, which officials contend undermine free speech and their academic objectives. Harvard has become a key target in Trump’s agenda, with the administration already suspending over $2.6 billion in federal research funding.

Additionally, the government has sought to stop Harvard from enrolling foreign students, although the university managed to obtain a temporary court ruling against the enforcement of that prohibition.

Administration officials have called for stricter oversight of foreign students, including a registry of those studying at Harvard.

Harvard has yet to respond to the requests for information about foreign students, with Trump admonishing the university for being “very slow in the presentation of these documents.” This information is crucial, he stated in another post on Monday, Memorial Day, for determining “how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be allowed back into our Country.”

Trump has claimed that approximately 31% of Harvard’s student population is international, questioning why the US should effectively subsidize their education when their home countries do not. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has also asserted that the university is unwilling to provide requested documentation regarding students.
