Grobler: A Year of Unrest

SuperSport United’s striker, Bradley Grobler, has admitted that although this season has been tough, their on-field performances have been commendable.

The Tshwane outfit currently finds itself near the bottom of the league standings with 26 points, hovering in the PSL relegation playoff zone, just one point above Cape Town City. It’s been a notably challenging season for the club.

With the season nearing its conclusion, SuperSport still has an opportunity to enhance their ranking. They have one final match, with 45 minutes to go against Golden Arrows at Lucas Moripe Stadium this Thursday.

The original encounter, scheduled for February, was disrupted by load shedding at the stadium, with the score evenly matched at 1-1 at halftime.

Grobler remarked that despite the season’s struggles, he takes pride in their gameplay, asserting that this has been the best they’ve exhibited in recent times.

“It’s definitely been an incredibly tough season,” Grobler reflected.

“Our position in the league certainly mirrors that, but when I think back on the season, I realize we’ve displayed some of the finest football in years.”

He continued: “I’ve always believed that in football, there are times when you must endure seasons that are not in your favor, experiences faced by teams globally. I truly feel this season has been one where we’ve performed admirably, yet luck has eluded us.

“Looking back on the season is somewhat disheartening. We didn’t foresee ourselves in this predicament, especially given the talent available in our squad. Yet here we find ourselves, and it’s vital for us to chart a way forward. Control is in our hands; we must finish this task, secure our place, and regroup.”

The 37-year-old expressed frustration at their status in the Betway Premiership, noting the challenges of climbing out of their current position as other teams also seek to advance.

“It’s truly exasperating,” Grobler stated. “I’ve faced this predicament a few times, and once you’re in it, escaping is incredibly challenging. You might win a game, but so will the other teams vying for the same objective. When you drop points, you often find that they do too.”

“There’s an inherent complexity that comes with this situation. Still, as I mentioned, it’s within our power; we have the chance to lift ourselves out, and that’s our goal heading into the weekend,” he concluded.
