Principal Arrested for Allegedly Accepting R30,000 Bribe for Teaching Position Contract

Vryburg – A 56-year-old female secondary school principal in Vryburg, North West, has been apprehended by the Hawks following a report from a teacher who alleged being pressured to pay thousands of rand to secure a teaching contract.

As per Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, the principal was taken into custody on Friday, 30 May 2025.

Lieutenant Colonel Mathebula explained that the arrest resulted from “an investigation into allegations of soliciting payment from a complainant in exchange for a teaching contract.”

“It is alleged that in June 2024, the suspect [principal] guaranteed the complainant a teaching position on the condition of a payment of R30,000.”

“The complainant is said to have paid the suspect R25,000 initially, followed by an additional R5,500 later.”

In the end, the complainant was employed.

Lieutenant Colonel Mathebula indicated that after the investigation, the principal was arrested and charged with two counts of corruption.

The accused is set to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2 June 2025.
