Fadlu’s Simba and Yanga Gear Up for Title Showdown in the Kariakoo Derby
Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC is preparing for an intense showdown against their fierce rivals Young Africans in a thrilling title-deciding match during the renowned Kariakoo derby, which will conclude the season on Wednesday.
Both top teams in Tanzania secured victories in their matchday 29 fixtures on Sunday afternoon. With guidance from the South African coach, Simba achieved a hard-fought 1-0 win over the already relegated Kagera Sugar, courtesy of a goal by Steven Mukwala.
In contrast, Yanga delivered a dominant performance against Dodoma Jiji FC, netting five goals from Clatous Chama, Duke Abuya, Ibrahim Bacca, Maxi Nzengeli, and an own goal by Joash Onyango, culminating in a resounding 5-0 victory right before the season’s end.
As the penultimate match approaches, Yanga holds a slim one-point advantage over second-placed Simba, having accumulated 79 points from their latest game, while Davids’ squad has reached 78 points so far.
The ex-Orlando Pirates co-coach is determined to dethrone Yanga and put an end to his team’s title drought, as Simba last celebrated championship success in the 2020/21 season.

Meanwhile, Miloud Hamdi, who took over from former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic in January, is eager to lead the defending champions to a fourth consecutive title in Tanzania’s premier league.
Timu Ya Wananchi aims for a league double against Simba when they face off at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday, having triumphed in their last encounter with a last-minute goal from Nzengeli last October.
As the 2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League season unfolds, the outcome remains uncertain, with Yanga striving for a domestic double while the league championship offers Simba their sole opportunity to avert a trophyless season.
