Sundowns FC Pays Tribute to Late Ex-Owner Angelo Tsichlas After Tragic Car Accident
Pretoria – Mamelodi Sundowns is mourning the death of Angelo Tsichlas, the team’s former owner, who sadly lost his life in a car accident on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in Pretoria.
In a concise statement issued on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, the Chairman of Sundowns, together with the Motsepe Family, the Board of Directors, Technical Team, Players, Management, Staff, supporters, and the entire “Yellow Nation,” conveyed their “deepest condolences to the family and friends as we grieve the loss of former Mamelodi Sundowns owner Angelo Tsichlas.”
The statement went on: “We pray that the Almighty God grants solace and strength to his family, friends, business associates, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.”
“Angelo and the Tsichlas family made substantial contributions to the South African football landscape and played a crucial role in the advancement of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.”

Tsichlas, husband of Natasha Tsichlas, the former managing director of Sundowns and current vice-president of the South African Football Association, was a key figure in South African football for numerous years.
From 1990 to 2003, Angelo and Natasha Tsichlas co-owned Mamelodi Sundowns alongside Abe and Solly Krok, steering the club through a significant era in its history.
Even after ownership changed hands, Angelo remained involved, including a term in 2015 as chief technical adviser.
