Liverpool Set to Compete with Man Utd and Arsenal for Viktor Gyökeres as Alexander Isak Deal Faces Uncertainty

LIVERPOOL is gearing up to compete with Manchester United and Arsenal for the signature of Viktor Gyokeres, as their pursuit of fellow Swede Alexander Isak appears to be dwindling.

The Reds’ manager, Arne Slot, is eager to recruit a top-tier striker before the new Premier League season begins, with both Scandinavian players in his sights.

Nevertheless, the primary focus, Isak, who is 25 years old, is challenging to entice, as Newcastle aims to make him their highest-paid player in 132 years.

Currently, Isak earns £130,000 weekly, but the club is set to reward his remarkable 27-goal season with a lucrative £200,000-a-week contract.

In comparison, £60 million-rated Gyokeres has netted 97 goals in 102 matches since joining Portugal from Coventry two years ago and has been on Slot’s radar for quite some time.

This 27-year-old was initially United’s key target after manager Ruben Amorim brought him to Sporting.

Even so, he has shown a desire to compete in the Champions League, while the Red Devils currently lack European football.

Arsenal previously had a £55.3 million bid rejected by the Portuguese champions and is expected to submit a revised offer.

However, they are now facing intense competition from Liverpool.

Gyokeres is currently in a standoff with Sporting president Frederico Varandas over his transfer fee, indicating he will not report for pre-season training.

Gyokeres has an £85 million release clause, but Sporting may consider a deal for £20 million less.

Slot is determined to enhance his attacking lineup as Darwin Nunez inches closer to a £42 million move to Napoli.

Moreover, Liverpool is targeting Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, feeling optimistic about acquiring the 24-year-old defender — who is in the final year of his contract — for £35 million.

Guehi would replace Jarell Quansah, who is expected to join Leverkusen in a £34 million transfer.
