Mpumalanga Safety MEC Jackie Macie Honors Six Victims of R23 Head-On Collision
Greylingstad – A devastating head-on collision involving a BMW and a VW occurred on the R23, between Greylingstad and Val in Mpumalanga, claiming the lives of six people.
The tragic accident, which resulted in no survivors, took place on Friday night (27 June 2025).
Each vehicle had three occupants.
Paramedics confirmed the deaths of five males and one female at the scene.
Commenting on this heartbreaking incident, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie noted that the cause of the crash is still uncertain, although negligent driving practices cannot be overlooked.
“Initial assessments of the scene indicate that traffic rule violations, excessive speeding, and dangerous overtaking maneuvers may have played a role in this collision,” stated the MEC.
Expressing condolences for the lives lost in road accidents, MEC Macie extended his sympathies to the bereaved families.
“It is essential for every driver to follow traffic regulations. Carelessness, speeding, and unsafe overtaking are significant contributors to deadly road incidents, especially at night,” MEC Macie remarked.
“All drivers must maintain heightened awareness while driving.”
The MEC emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic rules, considering the high incidence of fatal accidents.
The identities of the deceased have yet to be revealed.
