Remains of Missing 6-Year-Old Girl Found in Mpumalanga Bushes

Mathafeni – Sadly, the remains of six-year-old Yolanda Mujovo, who had been missing, were found in the bushes.

The child disappeared under unclear circumstances from her home in Mathafeni, near Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit), Mpumalanga, on the night of Monday, June 23, 2025.

As per Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, Yolanda and her four-year-old sister were left alone at home by their father, who had gone out to a nearby shop.

“Reports suggest that the father told his children to lock the shack for their safety,” remarked Brigadier Mdhluli.

When he returned around 20:40, he discovered Yolanda was missing, and her younger sister could not provide any details.

The lock on their humble home’s door seemed to have been tampered with.

“The situation was reported to the police in Nelspruit, which prompted the opening of a missing person’s investigation,” added Brigadier Mdhluli.

“A search operation commenced, involving various units, but tragically, their efforts yielded no results.

“On the evening of Friday, June 27, 2025, police and paramedics received a report about a child found in the bushes.

“Unfortunately, medical personnel confirmed that she had died.”

He noted that a criminal investigation has been launched.

“A murder case has been filed, with initial inquiries indicating that the girl may also have been a victim of rape,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects is urged to reach out to the police’s national number at 08600 10111.
