Hisense SA Collaborates with DTIC for Exciting E-Commerce Launch in South Africa
Johannesburg – Hisense SA has been recognized by the Proudly South African initiative as a vital strategic partner in its national mission to bolster local manufacturing, create jobs, and strengthen South Africa’s economy through indigenous innovation and production.
The company received accolades for its significant contributions to local manufacturing at the launch of Proudly SA’s consumer-oriented online platform, aptly named Shop Proudly SA.
This initiative, in partnership with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), also introduced a business-to-business (B2B) online platform called the Market Access Platform (MAP).
The MAP was designed to assist corporate buyers in meeting their localisation targets by granting access to a database of over 2,000 vetted businesses spanning various sectors.
These businesses have been approved and accredited by the Proudly South African initiative, with Hisense SA being among them.
Aligned with Proudly SA’s mission to enhance localisation, Hisense SA not only stands as a global technology leader but also as a company deeply rooted in South Africa.
Since its establishment in 1996, Hisense SA has invested substantially in the local economy, including a R350 million cutting-edge manufacturing facility situated in Atlantis, Cape Town.
The factory has the capacity to produce up to 500,000 refrigerators and one million televisions annually, serving both local and export markets, with products available in over 3,500 stores nationwide and exported to more than 10 countries across Southern Africa.
A remarkable highlight for Hisense SA is the introduction of South Africa’s largest television – the groundbreaking 116-inch UX TV.
As part of its ongoing localisation strategy, Hisense is continually improving its manufacturing capabilities to deliver high-quality, large-format displays to South African consumers and beyond.
“Our vision has always been to create more than just electronics – we aspire to build futures,” commented Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager at Hisense SA.
“By manufacturing locally and expanding our export presence, we strive to uplift local communities, cultivate high-value skills, and ensure that South African consumers have access to premium technology produced on home soil.”

Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, stated: “Central to our industrialisation agenda is a fundamental truth: we must build local, buy local, and support local.
“Localisation is not merely a policy option; it is a national necessity for job creation, industrial growth, and economic independence.”
This recognition from the Proudly South African initiative aligns harmoniously with Hisense SA’s broader localisation strategy, focusing on promoting supplier development, supporting enterprise growth, and fostering employment throughout the technology and manufacturing supply chain.
As e-commerce flourishes with new digital procurement platforms like Shop Proudly SA and its Market Access Platform (MAP), Hisense SA is strategically positioned to make a significant impact on local value chains and meet the procurement goals of both private and public sector stakeholders.
In an increasingly competitive global landscape, the partnership between Hisense SA and Proudly SA underscores a shared commitment to economic sustainability, job creation, and homegrown excellence.
