Hlophe Condemns Duduzile Zuma and Ndhlela for Disruptive Behavior in Caucus
The internal disputes within the MK Party have surfaced following a critical letter from the party’s deputy president, Dr. Mandlakayise (John) Hlophe. He accuses Duduzile Sambudla-Zuma, daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, and party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela of creating division within the parliamentary caucus.
In a letter dated June 26, Hlophe details several disruptions during caucus meetings, claiming that Ndhlela insulted the newly appointed chief whip, Colleen Makhubele, and refused to accept his removal from the whippery. Hlophe also alleges that Sambudla-Zuma initiated “unnecessary chaos” by frequently interrupting meetings and undermining the authority of leadership.

“Commander Ndhlela has consistently insulted the chief whip, labeling her a ‘political novice and newcomer’ on multiple occasions,” remarked Hlophe. “His actions demonstrate a deliberate attempt to override the chief whip’s authority and destabilize the cohesion of the caucus.”
MK Leadership Crisis Escalates as Letters are Exchanged and Loyalties Shift
This letter emerges amidst growing calls for Makhubele to resign from her chief whip role just a month into her tenure, as critics point out her insufficient leadership. Nevertheless, Hlophe has stepped up to defend her, denouncing attempts to undermine her authority.

During a recent whippery team meeting, it was reported that Sambudla-Zuma disrupted the proceedings by refusing to wait her turn and questioning the leadership. Hlophe noted that despite his intervention, her disruptive conduct persisted.
“She suddenly stood up, gathered her belongings, and shouted, ‘Are we not done?’ before taking her seat again when she noticed no one had followed her,” Hlophe recounted.
He warned that the actions of Sambudla-Zuma and Ndhlela breach the party’s constitution and code of conduct, urging Zuma to take immediate steps.

“These issues require urgent intervention to restore unity, efficiency, and uphold the revolutionary ideals of the MK Party,” Hlophe asserted. “I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to advance the transformative objectives of the MK Party.”

Ndhlela Responds as Factional Conflicts Endanger Party Stability
In response, Ndhlela claimed to have only seen the letter circulating on social media. When he approached Hlophe about it, the deputy president allegedly distanced himself, claiming “his signature has been misused.”
This turmoil occurs amid persistent factional conflict within the MK Party, marked by frequent changes in leadership roles since its establishment in December 2023. The party has already experienced six different secretary-generals. Most recently, Mzwanele Manyi was removed from his position as chief whip in parliament, replaced by Makhubele.
Currently, Makhubele faces her own challenges. A letter allegedly from the MK Party caucus accuses her of autocratic leadership and failing to consult with members.
“Makhubele’s actions have estranged members, eroded trust, and compromised the integrity of our caucus,” states the letter.
When contacted for a comment, Ndhlela chose not to elaborate, stating:
“I first saw it when a journalist shared it with me; sadly, I can’t discuss caucus matters.”
