The South African Rugby Union (SARU), SuperSport, and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) revealed a broadcasting agreement on Thursday, allowing SABC to air the highly anticipated second Castle Lager Incoming Series Test match between the Springboks and Italy.
This thrilling encounter, showcasing two passionate rugby nations, will also commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Springboks’ historic victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup, as part of SARU’s celebrations recognizing this milestone for the country.
The rugby clash is scheduled for Saturday, 12 July, with kickoff set for 17h10 (CAT) at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Fans can watch it live on SABC 2, SABC radio, and SuperSport (DStv).
Mr. Mark Alexander, President of SA Rugby, stated: “The 1995 triumph was a significant moment that captivated the world—showcasing the remarkable power of sport to unite people, mend deep divisions, and inspire a nation still establishing its footing as a new democracy.”
“As SARU, we are collaborating closely with our broadcasters to ensure that every South African can witness this historic event.”

Nomsa Chabeli, the SABC’s Group CEO, expressed gratitude to SARU and SuperSport for their collaborative efforts during the negotiations that led to this landmark match being broadcasted.
“It’s crucial for the SABC to remain engaged in significant national sporting events that unite the nation, and rugby plays an essential role in this,” she mentioned.
“This agreement also emphasizes the extensive reach of the public broadcaster, ensuring that millions of South Africans can partake in this historic celebration.”
“We encourage all South Africans to tune in as we commemorate the 30th anniversary of our Rugby World Cup triumph in 1995.”
SuperSport CEO Rendani Ramovha added: “SuperSport is thrilled to be part of the celebration of 30 years of Springbok excellence since that memorable moment in 1995.”
“That victory unified the entire nation, and we are proud to help bring people together once again around the Springboks. This year also marks three decades of SuperSport as an independent channel, and we are eager to celebrate this milestone alongside the most successful rugby nation in Men’s Rugby World Cup history—the Springboks.”
“To enhance this experience further, SuperSport will organize a variety of events throughout the year, including the Springbok Dream Team and special broadcasts on Your World of Champions on DStv.”
