Maduka Explains the Technical Team’s Selection at Magesi
Newly appointed head coach John Maduka of Magesi FC shared his rationale for not selecting an assistant coach, instead deciding to keep the current technical staff intact.
The Malawian tactician was introduced as the club’s new manager on Thursday at the Limpopo-based team, taking over from Owen Da Gama, who effectively led the squad away from relegation before departing due to unsuccessful contract discussions.
Maduka, who joined Magesi following a difficult stint with the financially troubled Royal AM, decided against the common approach of bringing in trusted allies to enhance his technical team.
The former Thwihli Thwahla head coach trusts that the existing staff has the skills required to help him reach his objectives, having been integral to the club’s journey since its amateur days and aiding its rise to the top tier.
“I believe changes should only be made when absolutely necessary. I have complete confidence in the current technical team. They have been instrumental in the promotion from the ABC Motsepe League to the NFD and the PSL,” Maduka remarked.

“Thus, I believe these coaches are not simply placeholders; they understand their roles and responsibilities, and if I don’t find it necessary to bring in new personnel, I intend to keep the current team.”
While he is pleased with the existing technical staff, Maduka remains open to the possibility of integrating new members if circumstances warrant.
“If it’s crucial for us as a group to improve the technical team, then we will look into that option. But for now, we are very optimistic about our current staff,” he confidently stated.
“At times, strengthening your squad involves ensuring you have a competent technical staff that can help realize your goals.”
After concluding their inaugural season in the Betway Premiership in 13th place last year, Magesi is now focused on evading relegation while also striving to defend their first major title.
