The ideal candidate should have a comprehensive understanding of the South African business environment and its global implications. Familiarity with economic principles, investment strategies, and the connections between various financial instruments is essential. Proficiency in interpreting financial statements of JSE-listed companies is also required.
They should possess an instinct for captivating stories, a strong news sense, a solid work ethic, and the creativity to develop exceptional story ideas during discussions with the editorial team.
Main Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality, relevant, accurate, and balanced business news and investment articles, including opinion pieces;
- Manage multiple stories simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines;
- Perform additional tasks as reasonably assigned by the editor.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant diploma or degree (in finance, economics, or journalism);
- Five to ten years of experience in financial journalism;
- Ability to read and analyze financial statements and other financial information;
- An established network of industry contacts;
- Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills;
- Thorough understanding of the Press Code;
- Aptitude for working under pressure and independently;
- Willingness to accept flexible working hours;
- Contactable references.
The salary is open to negotiation, and it is preferable that the journalist has their own means of transport.
