Footballer Receives Red Card for Throwing Ball at Fan and Making Gesture to Referee

A FOOTBALL PLAYER was shown a red card after hurling a ball at a fan and allegedly making an obscene gesture toward the referee.

Seattle Sounders defender Nouhou Tolo received a direct red card during an MLS match against Sporting Kansas City.

The defender received a red card in the fourth minute of stoppage time while his team was ahead 3-1.

At 28 years old, Nouhou picked up the ball and threw it at a fan situated behind the goal.

The linesman quickly intervened and alerted the referee to the situation.

Referee Elijio Arreguin issued a red card while Nouhou maintained his innocence.

The player displayed his middle finger, implying that this was the gesture made by the fan that provoked his reaction.

Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer remarked after the match that the fan indeed gave Nouhou the middle finger.

He said: “A fan flipped him off and then he threw a ball into the stands. I’ll discuss Nouhou’s behavior privately.”

The incident occurred while officials were reviewing a penalty awarded to Sporting.

The call was upheld, and the penalty was successfully converted; however, there wasn’t enough time left for the home team to tie the game, resulting in a 3-2 victory for the Sounders.
